School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory

This video is about the role of the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory in supporting students with vision impairment and/or hearing loss.

As SSEN: S educational programs and services are government funded, they will be provided at no cost to the school, parents, or guardians of eligible students with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss.

At SSEN: S it is our mission to ensure every child with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss achieves to their full potential.

Established in 2013, the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory (SSEN: S) provides professional educational assistance for children and students with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss.

As a Specialist School, SSEN: S is united in our commitment to providing engaging and inclusive teaching and learning through our Expanded Core Curricula, tailored educational adjustments, and collegiate professional capability building state-wide.

We endeavour to meet educational need with our excellent services and supports for babies (and their parents and carers), children, students, and schools to improve the wellbeing, engagement, and achievement of learners. Our service delivery assists in facilitating accessible learning environments, curriculum, and school communities.

Quality teaching and learning support is delivered through the:

  • Deaf Education Program
    • Early Childhood Service
    • Visiting Teacher Service
  • Vision Education Program
    • Early Childhood Service
    • Visiting Teacher Service.

In the Early Childhood Services, early intervention and tailored learning programs prepare children to successfully develop their skills, supporting achievement of milestones.

The Visiting Teacher Services provide a range of supports including individual teaching, educational adjustment recommendations, consultation, and professional learning provision.

All learning programs share practices to build capability and understanding of our family and school educational partners.

Alongside our dedicated teachers, our committed allied colleagues collectively strive to achieve our mission to ensure every child with hearing loss, vision impairment or dual sensory loss achieves to their full potential. Our aim is to build on strength to ensure success through purposeful, safe, and confident learning.
